Lautech stand still for Tinubu

Former Lagos state governor and National Leader of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) Sen. Bola Tinubu yesterday was invested as Lautech Chancellor and also awarded the D.Sc (Honoris Causa) in Management Sciences by the institution.
The Convocation, Investiture award and lecture take place at the SIFAX Lecture Theatre have in attendance APC big wigs all around the country, while speaking yesterday, The APC National Leader urged election riggers to stay clear of Osun and Ekiti States during the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
According to him “I fear this government will not allow free and fear elections in 2015. If the balloting during the last year’s vote on the chairmanship of the Nigerian Governor’s forum is indicative, then coming elections will be ones where numbers and Maths are immaterial,” he said.
He maintained that without reforms, elections may likely be ones where those the people rejected would be proclaimed the people’s choice, adding that such malpractice would only place the nation on a dangerous straits.
“To avoid this calamity, we need sweeping electoral reform. Foremost, we need a fully bio-metric voters verification and validation of registration system.
Adding that “Our current system encourages multiple voting and not verifiable one man one vote. As such, it is a veritable invitation card to massive fraud and malpractice,” he said.
Tinubu, who is also the Chancellor of the Institution, condemned in its entirety the Nyanyan killings and the abduction of female students in Borno, saying the their assailants had grown more brazen
“Their mayhem has not abated. The tempo and consistency of attacks suggest that this government’s approach is not only tepid but wrong-minded. We have reached a point where uncertain policy and half measures do not suffice.
“These terrorists have declared war not only against government but against the whole of us,” he said.

He implored the Jonathan administration to develop a grand strategy to bind this menace, urging it to move the African Union summits to jointly and decisively eliminate all sources of insurgency within the member states.
The APC National leader said that patriotism was about country and not self nor religious bigotry, saying Nigerians must stand bi-partisan, united and in complete solidarity against the threat to the nation.
Tinubu faulted the recently released GDP by the federal government, adding that the magical statistics does not translate to improvement in the people’s economic condition.
He pledged to do his best for the institution, saying he dared not do less because he followed the footsteps of men who never saw failure as an option.
Dignitaries at the convocation includes former head of state, Rtd Gen. Muhammad’s Buhari, Former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Sen. Sola Adeyeye, Sen. “Resident doctors in this hospital have worked against all odds to ensure the good people of Ogbomoso and its environs get the best of care which has been enjoyed since inception.”
The association, said its members had commenced an indefinite strike since 7 April. The association also noted that the action of Oyo and Osun governments had wrought grave consequences on the hospital.

Lautech seals gate of hell

The revolution of Lautech continues and the latest is the blocking of illegal entrances into the school premises. Out of the numerous entrances and shortcuts into the school, the university has successfully blocked every additional route except from the main entrance along Ilorin express road, Under G school gate and Adenike's little single-entrance gate.

This morning, the last illegal route along Harmony Club which has always been a horrible route to pass for students especially at night got blocked. It is no longer news to ladokites that in the last few months, gradual and successful changes have been made to beautify Lautech.

God Bless Lautech!

University mass choir set for first official performance

After weeks of rehearsals, the University Choir of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, is set to perform at its first official event, the 12th inaugural lecture of LAUTECH. Speaking with the director of the University Choir, Mr Akin Odesola noted that the interreligious choir made up of Muslims and Christians who are members of the Ladoke Akintola university of technology community: staffs and students, is set for its first public performance. Just this semester, the rain semester of the 2012/2013 session the university choir presented to the university top management team a new university anthem to replace the old anthem which was for the student union, and had words that weren’t representing the core values of the university.
As over 35,000 students look forward to the first performance of the university choir a feat that hasn’t been achieved in 23 years, the vice chancellor Prof Sulaiman Gbadegesin promised to ensure that the choirs do not just perform at the convocation of the University scheduled for next month, but also at all public events of the university as being initiated by performing at the inaugural lecture series 12, by Prof. Taiwo Adegboyega Adewole a Professor of chemical pathology. Scheduled for Thursday 17th of April 2014, and themed “from DNA to molecular diagnosis : the future of the past in the Nigerian contemporary medical practice.

It however must be noted that LAUTECH being a university of technology, has no department of music or classical studies, and makes the choir a group of students and staffs who are ready to give back to their society. As rehearsals continue, and musicals instruments keep rolling in, students, staffs of the Educational society are anticipating the ground performance.
