Davido's hit song "Aye" enters Lautech hall of fame

On Wednesday, 26th of March, 400l students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) were shocked during one of their CBT exams on a course (AER). They were amazed when they saw Davido's song ‘AYE’ which was programmed on individual computer to ask them some related questions like (what type of cultivation does Davido practice in the video?) and more.
It wasn’t funny when the question popped up on the computer and were asked to play the video and watch carefully to answer the questions right. All of a sudden, students left their computers to start dancing to the video and singing along. Wonders shall never seize!!
As it stands, it's no longer news to all Ladokite that new style of setting exam questions may occur at any moment and have to be prepared. Maybe the university is really advancing with entertainment and technology.
Welcome to the 21st century Lautech!

Olawale Project fame hits Lautech campus

400 level (IT returnee) Agricultural students waved a final goodbye to the record breaking one and half year session as they concluded their comprehensive examination yesterday. After the exam, they came out all with smiles congratulating themselves for the journey so far and welcoming themselves into their final lap in the school. According to reports, MTN Project Fame winner (Olawale Ayodele Ojo) was also on campus yesterday to write his exam.

For other levels and departments, next week is lecture-free week and exams will be starting on 7th of April, 2014.

We wish all Ladokites success.

Climate change, a major problem facing agriculture- Lautech Vice Chancellor

Climate change has been described as one the problems facing agriculture globally.
Making the description was the Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Professor A.S Gbadegesin, while declaring open the 39th National Conference of the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection, with the topic: ‘Ecofriendly plant protection strategies and challenges” at the Senate Chamber of the university, on Tuesday.
Professor Gbadegesin noted that: “Climate change is one of the major problems facing agriculture worldwide. It has negative effects on agriculture, wrecking havoc on crops, livestock and fisheries production in different capacity, ranging from storms, tornado, flood, erosion, drought and severe winter.”
He also attributed the cause of flooding to excessive rainfall as a result of climate change. Saying: “Flood damages farmlands and causes total nutrient and crop loss, hinders food production by reducing yields and increases poverty rate.”
Climate change, according to Professor Gbadegesin can cause damage to farm access roads thereby hindering movement of farmers, marketers, extension agents and transportation of farm produce.

Urban and Regional Planning students fume over results

The department of Urban and Regional Planning, Lautech launched their long term magazine project today. It has been confirmed that all students from the department must pay a compulsory #500 to the department for their personal copies of the magazine and a compulsory #250 to collect their last semester results.

So far so good, the mood among the students haven't been positive, they believe the amount is too high and unfair especially after spending so much on recent projects and assignments. The 300 level students in particular recently paid #5500 for a field trip which they just returned from last week.

The management has given an order that no student will collect his/her result without paying for the magazine. A reported number of about 80 students have paid for both the magazine and results in a department of about 900 students.

Hmmmmm...let's see how the week turns out!

Absolute rubbish!!! -Physiology students protest

Confirmed source just informed us that the 8th annual national physiology conference came to a bitter end yesternight. According to plans,  a final dinner party was to hold at Lautech's New Health college, opposite Ogbomoso recreation club by 9pm yesterday but the event was turned into a war zone.

Before now, complains have been made by physiology students to the governing body of the conference about sudden changes of different programs on the agenda without formal and quick notification. One of these changes was the cancellation of the dinner scheduled for 9pm yesterday which resulted in conflicts and arguments among the organizing committee and physiology students.

Instead of the dinner, an election was made in order to know the next university to host the conference, but all efforts to have a peaceful election was in vain. This election came to a close around 3am this morning after the intervention of the Vice-chancellor of the university (Professor Gbadegesin), who came to stop the unrest which was believed to have started disturbing the neighbours around.

We are working on bringing you some pictures from the conference.... Please, check back

300 level Urban and Regional Planning students make history

Thursday, 27th February was a memorable day for the students of Urban and Regional Planning students of Lautech (class '15') as they made history. They embarked on their first ever field trip in their 4 years span in the institution till date. The field-work trip was announced by the Lecturer-in-charge (Dr. Hassan) some weeks earlier and an agreement was reached on the amount to be paid by each student of the department.
The students assembled at the department building early on the day of departure but had to wait till around 2:30pm before moving. They lodged at Palm Crest hotel in Osogbo from where they toured around the city to carry out their duties.
According to the class representative, he said the field-trip was a necessity especially for the development of their knowledge on the course and were particularly glad to have visited the famous Osun-Osogbo Shrine on this field-trip.They all arrived back in school on 1st of March and they were glad to have gone on the field trip. But since then, they have all been seen saying "Ela nla" and ''Iyamapo'' as their new colloquial.

*If you see any URP 300 level student anywhere, ask him/her for the meaning of "ELA NLA" for me* Do not be amazed at the reply.
Here are a few pictures from their trip

Log out week: "Let my people go Pharaoh"- Class 13

Lautech class '13' celebrated their long awaited log-out week. The event which comes up annually in the institution was scheduled to hold last year but unfortunately was postponed compulsorily because of ASUU strike. The event started colourfully last Monday and ended on Friday.
Final year students from every department gathered in mass, dressed in primary school uniforms and rags to walk around the school premises. Majority of them sang old school song and walked around imitating primary school pupils.

It was fun to witness this but hopefully, ASUU and LAUTECH will set lose these people after 6years in the university. Whew!

We just got a confirmation that the expected LAUTECH S.U.G election stated for today has just been called off. The reason is still yet unknown to Ladokites who are getting impatient by the continual postponement of the election. The first date set was postponed privately, the second was made known publicly and this is the third time the election has been postponed in 4weeks.
The new date set for the election is still undisclosed. All candidates are therefore advised to carry on with their campaigns until a new date is announced.
